This post is here for anyone who is interested in having a website or a blogsite (online journal or newsletter).
The difference between a website and a blogsite is that a website will give you more options in creativity, and design of your pages. A blogsite is more like a journal or newsletter and a hundred times quicker and easier to get up and running.
You can get set up with a basic Hostgator account starting at an initial fee of about $20, and then a $7.95 a month hosting fee. Or, pay for a year in advance and you get a discount that averages out to be as low as $4.95 a month. If you are new to having a website or blogsite, you can start off with the very basic, and upgrade at any point in the future. Also, during sign up, make sure you enter the 'COUPON CODE' from the Hostgator Homepage to get an additional 20% off the setup cost.
First choose a domain name before you begin the signup process. (Example: www.bodyfasting.com) Think of what you want to call your website. [I chose a name with the word fasting, because the Bodyfasting website is founded on the principle keyword 'fasting.']
Next, go to Hostgator. When the page loads, click on the HOSTING ORDER NOW button at the top left of the page, and go through the sign up process.
Once you are signed up with Hostgator, you will want to set up for a website or blog format. The following example will guild you to set up a blog. If you are planning on having a website just install Joomla or a similar website builder in the same way as this example.
OK, assuming the sign up process is complete and you have your user id and password information, (check your emails) you can log into your 'cpanel' and set up your website account, or blog. You should have a link to your specific cpanel login page in the email you received. Sign in and go to the control panel page and scroll down and click on 'Fantastico De Luxe folder.' As the next page loads, look on the left side where the heading reads 'Blogs.' Click on 'Wordpress' then click on button that says 'New Installation' The next page should load, and then fill out the information. If your blog is going to be your homepage you can leave the directory name blank. Otherwise, if you intend on having a website at some point type the word 'blog' in the new directory name. What this will do is create a new folder for your blog, thus leaving your main homepage open. If you do not enter a sub directory, your blog will be established in the main directory: www.yourdomainname.com If you put it in a blog directory, it will look like this: www.yourdomainname.com/blog If you think you may want to create a website at some point, then you might want to put your blog into this sub directory. Moving on, next, fill out your username and password, nickname, and a description of your blog, and then click install. Once you have installed, you can go to your new domain and log in and start creating content for your blog.
